What is the telc exam?
telc — The European Language Certificates — offers standardised German exams aligned to the CEFR. telc certificates are accepted by many employers and authorities in Germany, and telc also offers profession-specific exams, including one for nursing (telc Deutsch B1-B2 Pflege).
GCA prepares you for the exam; telc exams are conducted by licensed telc exam centres.
Exam format
How telc exams are structured
telc exams combine a written part and an oral part. At B1 and B2 the written part covers:
Reading
Global, detailed and selective reading tasks on everyday and work texts.
Language elements
Grammar and vocabulary gap-fills — a part unique to telc and often underestimated.
Listening
Announcements, conversations and radio-style texts.
Writing
Letters or emails responding to a situation, scored on content, structure and accuracy.
Oral exam: usually taken in pairs — getting to know each other, discussing a topic and planning something together. We rehearse each part in the real format.
